Eat less, move more. You have probably heard that before, right? Well, that is true to a point.
I don’t want to overwhelm you but I must be honest. There are so many factors involved in why we carry extra weight and the reality is most of it is not your fault. The way food is grown in monocultures where the soil have been depleted of trace minerals, packaged foods, a busy lifestyle, portion size, nutritionally depleted fruits and veggies, stress, hormones and inflammation in our bodies. What do you do and where do you start?
First, breathe. Second, take an inventory of what you keep in your house and slowly remove and replace with healthier foods. Don’t run berserk and do everything all at once. This is quite frankly a recipe for disaster. You see your mind will look at that as lack and loss and go into fight or flight mode. Replace pop and juice (juice has just as much sugar as pop) with water that has fruit or cucumbers and mint. That will drop pounds noticeably especially if your family consumes a lot of sugary drinks. If you can’t, just can’t stop having the pop right away buy the smallest cans and interchange with water . Flavoured water will trick the brain over plain water as you transition.
Educate yourself on portion size and if you plan on purchasing packaged foods learn how to read the labels. http://www.unlockfood.ca. The most effective way to shop is in the outside aisles. That is where your basic foods are that are not processed. If you do not have time to shop for fresh foods regularly I would recommend having it delivered. Most larger stores do not charge when you purchase a minimum dollar amount. Yes, organic is best but not necessary. Include your children in the cooking , shopping and knowledge process!! This creates fun family time.
If you can budget I would highly recommend visiting a nutritionist. If that is not feasible look for qualified people on Youtube. I recommend Dr. Berg and Dr. Rhonda Patrick although she gets very technical and is more advanced in her teachings. Make sure you check the credentials of your information.
Love it or hate it but you need some form of movement. Youtube is your friend. If you cannot get outside for a walk around the block or two or the gym is not in your vision, Yoga by Adrienne has many videos of all skill levels. Again, include your children. There are also professionals (make sure you check their credentials) who show you how to exercise at home with physical weights or body weight movement. Do not be discouraged!
Supplements are required. At one time I balked at taking supplements. A waste of money I said!! Until I started to get sick. Again, our food is not grown in the same way and our lifestyles are not the same. We are nutritionally deficient. I take what my body needs as directed by a naturopathic doctor. I also use nutrigenomics to activate my cells to make their own glutathione and boost my mitochondria. This lowers my oxidative stress that causes disease. Diets…….sigh. They have a huge failure rate and are big business. Sure you will lose weight but will you actually keep it off? What you need is education and skills and a new belief system in your mind and body. It honestly is not that hard once you take the steps. They don’t need to be drastic otherwise you will set yourself up for failure. I personally did intermittent fasting for 8 weeks initially one time a week and worked my way up to 5 days so that I could drop the menopausal fat off my tummy and sides. It worked well and I have maintained my ideal size that I wanted. Now I am working to get the muscle tone in my body with weight bearing exercises. It has many benefits and may be something you would like to add to your weekly regime. Again, do your research.
Lastly, the mind has a part in why you are having difficulty in hitting your ideal weight. We are hunter gatherers and would have to forage for good when it was available. Since we live in first world countries food is always available to use so we over consume. Buffet anyone? We are also trained as children that we can’t get that dessert until we have finished what is on our plate. Consume until we get the sugary, fatty treat. Or getting the ice cream cone after skinning our knee or eating a bag of potato chips because we broke up with our partner. Food can be used as comfort or in social situations as a way to celebrate.
On a more serious note, weight can be a psychological protector if we do not love ourselves or experienced a form of trauma. This is where hypnosis can get to the root cause and change that belief. And hypnosis can also help with cravings and motivation to achieve your ideal body. Do you notice I don’t say weight loss? There is a reason for that. 🙂
I know you can do it. I believe in you. I am here to support you. Let’s chat.
